While this may not be a concern for many people, just be aware of the dimensions of the dock and where you would like to place it. Installation system to connect the Sirius sat receiver to my vehicle works great. The only problem that I encountered was finding a location for the dock inside my vehicle. I ended up attaching mine to the front of the dash using a silicon glue. Otherwise it works great.
By using my Sportster 5 as a tuner, I (A) Can avoid paying an extra fee to have Sirius in my home AND car and (B) don't have to waste the $160 radio I bought when I first signed up. Twice I've brought it back to Best Buy and twice they've had to reset the tuner and wuala, it works again. Or at least sine the Artie/Teddy fight. The Good.Considering "the bad", a 3-star rating is pretty huge for this product. Next time I'm gonna have them re-mount the hidden interface underneath my steering column so I can reset the tuner myself. Randomly I will turn the car on and the Sirius dock will be receiving no power at all.
The Bad.Had it installed last weekend, and since then it has twice gone out on me.
Best Buy neatly installed the dock right in the cubby underneath my head-unit.
But I don't think it is faulty wiring as much as a faulty wire.
This is due to the fact that, when working properly this unit is the best thing that has happened to my satellite radio since the merger.
They told me this happens quite a bit, but I don't want to taint the image of this product by what the people at Best Buy tell me - it could be their fault.
When 'On', "Sirus Connect" is displayed on the Sportster while I control it through my head-unit - little doggy logo and all.
It's so cool.
They told me another customer has brought her vehicle back 5 times and each time, all they can figure out is that if they reset the tuner, it regains power.
I love the thing so much that I'm willing to go through the hassle.
Installed antenna.and doc unit.unit defective. Had to send the whole package back.that includes renoving the antenna docing bracket etc. Sent back.on back order. Still don't have new unit.I'm sorry I bought item.
One point to note is that channel up/down on the steering wheel will not allow you to scroll through Sirius presents, it always does channel up/down. The OEM radio display scrolls when song or artist names are more than 16 characters, just like it does for the factory XM Radio.
I prefer the music and comedy on Sirius to that available on XM. I purchased this product for use in a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe with factory XM Radio.
The OEM radio display shows the proper Sirius category, channel name, channel number, artist, and song title. Even though the companies are trying to merge, I also like using a portable satellite tuner so I can have satellite radio in both my vehicles and my home without having to pay for multiple subscriptions.I use this dock with a HONSC1 tuner interface, a Sportster 5, and an adapter that allows me to use the factory XM roof mounted antenna.
The Sportster 5 is mounted in the glove box. Sound quality is good and all of the factory radio controls work, including the steering wheel mounted controls.
It is not a big deal as you can just reach over and push the preset button you want on the radio itself.Overall, it is a great product that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to use a portable Sirius tuner in a vehicle that has factory XM Radio.
